Spring Walk

The pieces above are painted on my famous three-sided boxes. They are all acrylic & mixed media on wood. I made these pieces this spring 08, mostly while I was in residence at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, VT (on a scholarship, thank you, thank you). I also worked on a couple of these on the super-secret Jess Graham Studio solo retreat in on the Cape.

I was going for texture because I was reveling in the gaudy abundance of spring roaring around me. I had been doing a lot more work with mixed media over the winter to get texture, but here I tried working mostly with paint and stencils (that I made from sketches of apple blossoms, birch leaves, maple buds) to achieve depth and rhythm.
